Possible places your video will feature or be advertised

Possible places your video will feature or be advertised
YouTube: This could be a possible place for my video to feature because a lot of other people post there content on there it is also a place for a lot of people to view it because a lot of people go on that website. I will use this for my music video so friends, family and strangers can all watch it.

Vevo: This is linked with YouTube where basically it is a channel what people go on just for music this is another place that people could go and watch my video. I most likely wont use this for my video because it id for the move professional artist who are more popular.

Instagram: I could post a 15 second clip of my song for people to listen to and if they like it then they can go and download it. I could also just post a picture telling people the song is out and then they can go download it. I will but a 15 second video of my music video for people to get a taste of what it is like and give a link to the video on YouTube in the description.

Twitter:  I could tweet a link to the song to go download it or I could just tweet saying how good it is. This would be a good way to get some feedback on my video and for lots of people to see it in one place. I will tweet my video for the people what follow me to see and maybe some of them will retweet it for more people to see.

Music channel: People can go and watch TV and turn on the music channel they do this just to watch the video or having music on in the background. A lot of people have TV's and therefore can have the music channel. Again this is more for professional who have a lot of money to do this.

Rockpack: This is where you can grab videos from anywhere and put them in a pack where other people can follow your packs. This would be good because song what are similar top yours will all be in the same back. I have never used Rockpack but I will see how I can upload my video on to it for people to watch.

Facebook: You can share your videos with friends and then they can comment on it telling you what they like and don't like. This is also a good what to show your music video to a lot of people at one time. I will upload my video on my Facebook for all of my 1000 friends to see and hopefully some people will share it so more people will watch it.

History of the medium

1962
In 1926 sound was introduced to film, this meant that you could have people talking and music in them. An artist from that time was George Olsen and he wrote songs like ‘The girl friend’. Films like this where called talkies and that is because they where not silent films. People would go down to local cinemas to listen and watch. This was a big stride for the music and sound in general.

1950
In the 1950 there was a big star and his name is Elvis Presley he is one of the most iconic music singers of all time. People say that he is the king of rock and roll he came in to play in early 1950’s and the main geographic audience was teenagers it became a part of ever day life to listen to music. Some of his famous songs include all shook up 1957 and Hound dog 1956.

1960's

In the 1960’s there was a big band rising called ‘The Beatles’. One of Beatles major hits was ‘A hard days night 1964 and this was an iconic music video because it change the way we make music videos today. The song played over the action of a film and they used up to 6 camera and was allowed to try zooms and different angles this made it more cinematic and has influenced a lot of things since then.

1980's
In the 1980’s a new song was born and it was called Bohemian Rhapsody. They released the song in 1975 but only became popular when they released a music video to it in 1980 and has become one of there most famous songs.

MTV
In 1981 ‘MTV’ (music television) was created. They did this to show off music videos for people to watch and is still going on today with chart updates and singles being released on a daily basis.

1982

In 1982 Michael Jackson released his new hit song ‘Thriller’. The music video to this song was like a little short movie with good cinematography and editing use. This change what we thing of music videos and they started using them as promotional techniques and making them high budget.

Music now a days
Music now a days are high budget but are only the length of the song and not short movies like Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' but still lots of money are spent on them because it is a big market becuase a lot of people listen to music especially teenagers.

This is the song I am doing my music video too

The Lyrics of Shake it off

I stay up too late
Got nothing in my brain
That's what people say
That's what people say
I go on too many dates
But I can't make them stay
At least that's what people say
That's what people say
But I keep cruising
Can't stop, won't stop moving
It's like I got this music
In my mind, saying it's gonna be alright
Cause the players gonna play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate
Baby I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off
Heart breakers gonna break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake
Baby I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off, Shake it off

I never miss a beat
I'm lighting up my feet
And that's what they don't see
That's what they don't see
I'm dancing on my own
I make the moves as I go
And that's what they don't know
That's what they don't know
But I keep cruising
Can't stop, won't stop grooving
It's like I got this music
In my mind, saying it's gonna be alright
Cause the players gonna play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate
Baby I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake
Baby I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off, Shake it off

Hey, hey, hey
Just think while you been getting down and out about the liars
And the dirty dirty cheats of the world
You could have been getting down to this sick beat

My ex man brought his new girlfriend
She's like oh my god
But I'm just gonna shake

Won't you come on over baby we could shake, shake

Shake it off. Shake it off
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake
Baby I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off, Shake it off

Conventions and form of pop genre

Conventions of pop genre

The conventions of the music genre pop is that the artists in the video are normally wearing up to date, fashionable and stylish clothing. When they are portrayed on magazine and other forms of media content there are often bright, bold colours and have a positive vibe to them. The artists of this genre have to always be happy and enjoying life. The main target audience of this genre is teens so they try to associate themselves with them. The lyrics of the most of pop songs are about love and/or relationships and the songs are normally 3 to 5 minutes long and have a constant beat.

Form of music video and the conventions of it

The most used camera shots for a music video are long shots, close ups and mid shots. These are so you can see the face and emotion of the artist and if you use long shots this is so you can see the setting of the video and so the artist can move around. The camera movements consist of tilts, tracking, pans and crane shots.  There is a lot of things that you can say and put in the scene of a music video and depending on what the genre of the video is. The editing of a music video changes according to the genre because you would normally edit to the beat. The cut used is a jump cut so you can quickly go to the next scene. Transitions are also used in music videos such as fade and dissolve.

What makes a good product audience and personal feedback

What makes a good music video?
·         Scenes relating to the song
·         Things that you will remember so you don’t forget the video
·         The mise-en-scene matches what the genre of the song is for example if it was Rihanna’s song it would be sexy because that is what she sings about
·         If the video has a good narrative so you know what is going on and it tells you a little story
·         The editing matches the beat of the song so if the lyrics are 3 seconds then the cut has to be about every 3 seconds

Conventions of a music video
·         They will be music in the music video
·         They might be a performance element to the video
·         They is eye contact with the camera to give a direct mode of address
·         The lip syncing is good and matches the lyrics
·         It could be narrative or abstract

Personal feedback to music videos I watched
Iggy azalea - Black widow: I think this is a good music video because of the narrative it has a really good storyline to it what involves action and has sex appeal this is what attracts people to watch it. The props used in the video go well with the lyrics. The tune of the song is good because it is catchy and the audience will want to sing it.

Slash – By the sword: It started off with an open desert. The narrative was easy to follow and the mise-en-scene went well with the song. The post production seems quite rushed but the editing to the beat is done very well. Also the camera work as good.

Juke Demont - I got you: The mise-en-scene goes well with the song. The location is well placed and the use of a P.O.V shot is well done but this means that you can’t see the singer. There is fast paced editing but this is to keep with the beat of the song.

Evaluation

Evaluation:
Location: The good thing about our location is how realistic and similar it looks to the real and original video. We thought that using the college theatre would be useful as it has a projector that we could put the image on to make it more similar to the video. We also had access to the spot lights and different coloured lights to create the last sequence. It also gave us enough space to fit all the props and cast in to create the shots we needed to do. The negative aspect of our location is that the theatre is in high demand due to it being end of term and there being lots of productions therefore the theatre is needed for them. It was difficult to find a time during the college week when we would all be available as well as the theatre and Andy the head of theatre production to help us with the lighting. Props:
The use of the instruments created realism and made out video look stronger. Even though these props were hard to get a hold of, we improvised with these props to create different effects throughout our film. For example we used the microphone for the female singer and for the main singer, both at different times within the video. To create the video we used similar costumes to the original video to create continuity. Again the negative aspect of some of the props we used was high demand. The music department was in the middle of final recordings for their coursework so all microphones and most the guitars were in use. Another negative aspect of the props were that we could not gain access to some such as a drum kit in the longshot scenes to show similarity in the reconstruction.
Filming: Filming was really fun to do and it brought the full group came together. Although at some points it was hard to decide shot types and Mie-en-scene, the filming process was interesting and really enjoyable to do. It gave the group an idea that it won’t be this easy when it comes to create our own music video but it inspired us to create the best product that we can. Another good thing about physically filming a music video is we all learnt something new about filming, whether it’s how to use the video camera, how to frame a shot or realising the sound distance. A negative aspects of filming was it was difficult to find a time that would suit everyone for filming due to some people living far away from college and not being able to stay after to film or having prior engagements and exams to filter in to the shooting schedule. Another negative aspect of filming was trying to communicate with the group and Andy the theatre manager to get the correct framing, lighting and sound due to lack of light in the theatre and the actual size of it.
Editing: A good thing about editing is the relief of having created something that looks like the original video and to have done it to a decent standard. We found the editing process quite easy to do and found it quite enjoyable to use. A thing we have learnt about editing is to concentrate on the length of the shot for editing, for example having 2-3 seconds either side of how long we want the video to be. This would make it easier to edit when it comes to our A2 music video. A negative aspect of editing the music video was that we signed in to one person’s account on a mac and we soon realised that we had to go to that exact mac on that person’s account to do all of the editing therefore we had to wait until that one person and that particular mac was free for us to all have a chance at editing our reconstruction.
