Conventions of pop genre
The conventions of the music genre pop is
that the artists in the video are normally wearing up to date, fashionable and
stylish clothing. When they are portrayed on magazine and other forms of media
content there are often bright, bold colours and have a positive vibe
to them. The artists of this genre have to always be happy and enjoying life.
The main target audience of this genre is teens so they try to
associate themselves with them. The lyrics of the most of pop songs
are about love and/or relationships and the songs are normally 3 to
5 minutes long and have a constant beat.
The most used camera shots for a music video are
long shots, close ups and mid shots. These are so you can see the face and
emotion of the artist and if you use long shots this is so you can see the
setting of the video and so the artist can move around. The camera movements
consist of tilts, tracking, pans and crane shots. There is a lot of
things that you can say and put in the scene of a music video and depending on
what the genre of the video is. The editing of a music video changes according
to the genre because you would normally edit to the beat. The cut used is a
jump cut so you can quickly go to the next scene. Transitions are also used in
music videos such as fade and dissolve.
