Conventions and form of pop genre
Conventions of pop genre
The conventions of the music genre pop is
that the artists in the video are normally wearing up to date, fashionable and
stylish clothing. When they are portrayed on magazine and other forms of media
content there are often bright, bold colours and have a positive vibe
to them. The artists of this genre have to always be happy and enjoying life.
The main target audience of this genre is teens so they try to
associate themselves with them. The lyrics of the most of pop songs
are about love and/or relationships and the songs are normally 3 to
5 minutes long and have a constant beat.
The most used camera shots for a music video are
long shots, close ups and mid shots. These are so you can see the face and
emotion of the artist and if you use long shots this is so you can see the
setting of the video and so the artist can move around. The camera movements
consist of tilts, tracking, pans and crane shots. There is a lot of
things that you can say and put in the scene of a music video and depending on
what the genre of the video is. The editing of a music video changes according
to the genre because you would normally edit to the beat. The cut used is a
jump cut so you can quickly go to the next scene. Transitions are also used in
music videos such as fade and dissolve.

What makes a good product audience and personal feedback
What makes a good music video?
·
Scenes relating to the song
·
Things that you will remember so you don’t forget
the video
·
The mise-en-scene matches what the genre of the
song is for example if it was Rihanna’s song it would be sexy because that is
what she sings about
·
If the video has a good narrative so you know
what is going on and it tells you a little story
·
The editing matches the beat of the song so if
the lyrics are 3 seconds then the cut has to be about every 3 seconds
Conventions of a music video
·
They will be music in the music video
·
They might be a performance element to the video
·
They is eye contact with the camera to give a
direct mode of address
·
The lip syncing is good and matches the lyrics
·
It could be narrative or abstract
Personal feedback to music videos I watched
Iggy azalea - Black widow: I think this
is a good music video because of the narrative it has a really good storyline
to it what involves action and has sex appeal this is what attracts people to
watch it. The props used in the video go well with the lyrics. The tune of the
song is good because it is catchy and the audience will want to sing it.
Slash – By the sword: It started off
with an open desert. The narrative was easy to follow and the mise-en-scene
went well with the song. The post production seems quite rushed but the editing
to the beat is done very well. Also the camera work as good.
Juke Demont - I got you: The mise-en-scene
goes well with the song. The location is well placed and the use of a P.O.V
shot is well done but this means that you can’t see the singer. There is fast
paced editing but this is to keep with the beat of the song.
